In the new Windows Live Essentials Wave 4 Beta version, users are bound to get hit by sign in errors. During sign in, if the user gets an error message like “Signing into Windows Live Messenger Beta failed because the service is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later”. Error Code: 80010100” Such Microsoft problems occur due to user end issues and not server issues. The main reason for this error is the corrupted cache of Windows Live Messenger.
Users complain that when the sign in error occurs, the IM completely cut then out. According to Microsoft, such Microsoft problems occur when:
- Windows Live Messenger Contacts cache is corrupted
- Incorrect Date and Time settings of computer
- Windows Live Messenger Service being blocked by Firewall.

The solution depends upon the cause of the issue. If the firewall is the culprit, follow the steps given below. First check if the firewall is disabling Windows Live Messenger from connecting to the Internet. If so, disable the firewall and connect to the net. Or just exempt WLM from firewall protection. Then check in the Settings list and ensure that Windows Live Messenger is added to the list.
If the Server Certificate Revocation is enabled, Windows Live Messenger may show sig in errors. Disabling the feature is the best way to resolve the issue. To do so follow the steps:
- Launch Internet Explorer.
- Go to Tools and select Internet Options.
- Click on Advanced tab and select Security option.
- Locate Check for Server Certificate Revocation option and disable it.
- Apply the changes by clicking OK.
- Restart Internet Explorer.
After following the above methods, restart your system and try again to sign into Windows Live Messenger. It should work now without any problem.
Clearing Windows Live Contact Cache
When the Contact cache of Windows Live Messenger is causing the issue, clearing them is the best fix. The steps are:
- Open Task Manager by pressing Ctrl +Shift +Esc keys together.

- Go to the “Processes” tab and look for msnmsgr.exe and wlcomm.exe services.
- If any of those are running, select it and End Process.
- Now go to start menu and type Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft in Run dialog box and press Enter.
- In the opened folder, look for Windows Live Contacts folder and delete it.
This will delete the caches from the system and will help in logging into Windows Live Messenger.
